Converting a Foreign ICAO License to a Canadian License

To convert a foreign ICAO license into a Canadian private pilot license.

Would you like to convert your PPL-H or CPL-H license to a Canadian license?

To verify that your aviation background meets all the requirements set by Transport Canada for the desired license, please email us photocopies of your logbook (complete and up-to-date), aviation licenses, and medical certificates to Transport Canada, which will submit a training program for you to obtain your Canadian CPL-H. Your aviation experience must meet all the prerequisites ofSection 421.31-4

If all prerequisites are met, you can begin your training at Hélicraft.
Training for the Canadian license, based on an ICAO license, is not subject to any minimum flight hours or ground school hours. You may take the written and practical exams as soon as your training program is completed and your instructor deems your proficiency satisfactory.

For an EASA license conversion, it is standard practice to complete approximately 12 hours of flight time (depending on your skill level) before you can be confident of passing the exam.

The theoretical portion must be completed before you arrive in Canada, using the Pilottraing.ca online training platform.

Plan for a total conversion budget of between $15,000 and $20,000 CAD on RH44, or between $30,000 and $40,000 CAD for the AS350 (depending on your flight experience) and a minimum of 4 weeks on-site to complete the training.

You will need a Canadian aviation medical certificate before you can begin the process of converting your license. There are Transport Canada-approved medical examiners located all over the world. The list of approved medical examiners is available HERE.

Once you have completed your medical examination and Transport Canada has approved your aviation experience, please contact us to arrange your enrollment in the training program. We recommend that you schedule a written exam as soon as possible, as wait times can range from 2 to 3 months.
