Canadian or foreign professional license to a U.S. private license
If you hold a professional license issued by a member state of the International Civil Aviation Organization, you may be eligible to fly in the United States and operate an aircraft registered in the United States upon request.
You will then need to follow the rules of your home license and those of the United States.
To ensure you receive your license on time, start the conversion process three months before you plan to operate U.S. machinery.
Follow the procedure described in Circular AC 61-135A.
You will need to confirm that you meet the required aviation experience criteria, hold an FAA Class 2 or 1 medical certificate, and prepare for the Commercial Pilot Helicopter Canadian Conversion (CCH) written exam .
Here are the requirements for converting a foreign ICAO CPL-H to an FAA CPL-H.
- Have a total of 150 hours of flight experience, including at least 50 hours in a helicopter
- Hold an FAA Class 1 or 2 aviation medical certificate.
- Hold a radio operator's certificate in English.
- The license must not include a restriction limiting flights to daytime only.
